Once again The Cape Cod Arts Foundation is showcasing performances and exhibitions highlighting the region’s exciting cultural scene. You will have the opportunity to meet and talk with exhibiting artists in hundreds of venues including museums, galleries, restaurants and parks. You can enjoy a sampling of the fine cuisine of the area. Enjoy live entertainment; discover cultural organizations; take a walk through history, and even create works of art!

So Saturday can be a very busy day for you, especially if you enjoy browsing. Who knows what treasure you will bring home from the Cape. I always enjoy the cut glass, silver pieces, and embroidered linens. My granddaughter enjoys the jewelry, and we like looking at old-fashioned toys (as she says). We try to find things that I may have had as a child. Great to reminisce!

Wondering what to do for vacation? Well, check out the June events below and all your questions will be answered. You can enjoy summer theatre, arts and crafts shows, historical tours and Bonnie Snow will take you on an amazing cemetery tour. You will even see where the Harding family has their family plot -- and then you can stay in one of the family home of Henry Harding, right here at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa. Stay at a whaling captain's home and become a part of its history.

Baseball at its best is back and looking forward to a great season. Games for June are listed with time and place so you can plan to see your favorite team or teams. So don't forget to bring the peanuts and Cracker Jack.

Also, Father's Day is not far away. Give Dad a special time away (at the Inn). After a gourmet breakfast at the Inn, he can enjoy the car show in Hyannis, sample Chowdah from area restaurants at the Big Blue Tent in Hyannis, and then end the day with a game of baseball. Orleans will take on Chatham at the Orleans field. We will supply the blanket or beach chairs, and Dad can take a picnic supper to the game. Doesn't get much better. Take advantage of all the fun events that June has to offer -- come back to the Inn for peace and quiet after a hectic day -- and enjoy all that the Cape has to offer.

Maritime Matinee: “The City that Lit the World”

DAFFODIL FESTIVAL WEEKEND
April 24 - 26, 2009

From early-April to mid-May, over three million daffodils of every color, shape and size will bloom on Nantucket Island. This blossoming, and the advent of spring itself, is the focal point of the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Daffodil Festival.Originated by the late Jean MacAusland, a summer resident of Nantucket and former publisher of Gourmet magazine, the weekend has grown into a full-scale celebration of winter’s thaw, joyous for both islanders and visitors alike. Daffodils adorn the island’s roadsides, gardens and shop windows with blossoms of yellow, orange, white and even pale pink. The Daffodil Festival’s grand event, held on Saturday (Rain or Shine) is the Annual Antique Car Parade, featuring over 100 daffodil-bedecked antique cars (pre-registration necessary for participation.) After winding through town and across the island to the charming village of Siasconset, participants join residents and visitors for the Annual Daffodil Tailgate Picnic. Held on the lush lawns leading into the village the picnic boasts fare ranging from elaborate gourmet cuisine served on fine china to box lunches and burgers. Other highlights include the Nantucket Garden Club’s Annual Daffodil Show, Daffy Dog Parade, Children’s Daffodil Parade and The Daffy Hat Pageant.

Remember that at the end of Maritime Days is the Memorial Day Weekend. Here at The Whalewalk Inn & Spa, we will celebrate that weekend with our traditional picnic. New Life for a Life-Saving Station: The Restoration of the Old Harbor Life-Saving Station

Join Cape Cod National Seashore Historian William Burke for a look at the ongoing restoration of the historic Old Harbor Life-Saving Station, one of the last stations of its kind in the nation. Meet at the Province Lands Visitor Center auditorium for a 30-minute discussion and slideshow about the history of the station and the plans to restore it, inside and out, to its 1900 appearance. Then, drive 5 minutes to the station for a first-hand look at the restoration progress to date.

A Winter Walk Along Cape Cod Bay

Took a walk along Cape Cod Bay this morning. It was quiet and beautiful. One of the last of the fishing boats was being pulled from the water for its season of rest and refurbishing. The marsh is a topaz brown and when the sun comes up on the dewy marsh, it sparkles with diamonds. It really is an awesome sight!

There are still some craft fairs on the Cape, holiday strolls, and on the 12th of December, there will be Tea and Music with pianist, Lynne Weber, who will be performing at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Route 6A, in Dennis. Free for members and $4. for non-members.

At the Provincetown Unitarian Meeting House the Outer Cape Chorale will perform "Imagine the Music of the Beatles," at 7 PM, on Friday and Saturday the 12th and 13th. It is free.

On Saturday there is a holiday cookie stroll featuring 12 Bass River homes, cookies and recipe book. The tour is $15 and starts at the Yarmouth Library, 312 Old Main Street.

The weekend of October 24th through 26th brought a really nice group of people to the Inn. We shared in anniversaries, birthdays, and family get-to-gethers. Guests enjoyed the property, massages, breakfast and happenings in the area. One family was especially pleased with our itineraries and spent the day finding all the sights mentioned in it. Thanks to the many great restaurants in the area, guests said a diet was in order starting on Monday.

Saturday Walks -- If you want to get the family outdoors and get a little education while you're at it, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History hosts Family Field Walks year-round every Saturday and Sunday (and Monday-Friday in July and August). Explore the John Wing Trail at the museum with a trained naturalist, who will give you all the facts about marsh, oak-pine forest and beach habitats. The one-and-a-half hour walk covers 1.2 miles, so even the little ones can enjoy it. Cost is free with museum admission. Call 508-896-3867 for time of hike.

Arts and crafts: Saturday, October 11th and Sunday the 12th at Nauset Middle School in Orleans where a visit to the Cape area isn't complete without a peek at what local artisans have to offer. The Artisans' Guild Arts and Crafts shows, which are held five different times a year at the local Middle School, feature a vast selection of the best in local crafters' wares. Take advantage of this gift-shopping opportunity to find something special for a loved one or yourself that is distinctly "Cape Cod." Admission is free; plenty of parking is available. Truro Treasures Weekend and Truro Winery Grape Stomp

GET READY FOR A FUN-FILLED WEEKEND IN TRURO!

Truro Treasures began in 1992 when several community members, most notably Betty Groom and Boo Houstoun, envisioned a fall weekend for children and adults to raise money to help save the Highland Lighthouse, and to promote community pride and interest in Truro. As a result, a non-profit organization, called Truro Treasures, was created to sponsor the event. Since then Truro Treasures has evolved and expanded into an annual fall weekend event that is crammed full of activities.

This year's theme is "Community Spirit", and the Lighthouse logo is reminiscent of the first Truro Treasures, organized to help raise money to preserve Highland Lighthouse.

The weekend begins on Friday evening with a cocktail party at Adrian's Restaurant, 5 - 7 pm, right on Route 6, cash bar and complimentary hors d'oeuvres.

The Saturday and Sunday activities including the following:

A silent art auction at the Pamet Yacht Club. It will take place on Saturday, September 20th from 10am-4pm. Silent Bids will begin closing at 3:30pm.
