We mentioned the Cape Cod Potters and the Garden Expo in the previous blog, so wanted to give a little more information on what it is all about. Sounds exciting! So take advantage of our 40% savings on your room and enjoy what the Cape Cod Potters have to offer. Gallery Talks with Cape Cod Potters Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis 03/05/09 to 04/09/09 11:00am A dozen potters represented in Clay: Works by Cape Cod Potters will present Gallery Talks at the Cape Cod Museum of Art on Thursday mornings, March 5, 12, 19 and 26; and April 2 and 9 at 11 am. The potters will work in pairs, talking about both their own work and the work of their fellow Cape potters. Expect a range of ideas and styles to spread across the six Thursday mornings - from wood-firing by Joe McCaffery to raku by Lois Hirshberg to ash glazes by Hollis Engley. No two will be alike and, frankly, there may be differences of opinion between any two presenters, as well. It should be fun. Clay: Works by Cape Cod Potters is a celebration of the diverse clay styles employed by potters who live and work on Cape Cod whose love of clay and membership in the Cape Cod Potters, Inc., binds them together. The range of work in the exhibition in Dennis depicts a wide range of functional, decorative, sculptural, traditional, and non-traditional pieces and demonstrates the many ways artists use this medium. Special Happenings for 2008 First Night ChathamSpecial Luncheon to Honor Veterans of WW II Monday, December 29, Noon to 3:00 p.m. VFW Hall by Invitation Only The iconic photo at left symbolizes one of the happiest days of the 1940s - the end of World War II and the outbreak of peace. The photo was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt for Life Magazine in Times Square on Aug. 14, 1945, during the celebration to mark V-J Day, the end of the war. First Night Chatham recognizes the contribution of the men and women who served their country so well during this critical period. This special luncheon will be held to honor all of our local residents who served in the armed forces during the 1940s. Men and women left their homes and families for domestic and foreign places to support of the war effort and safeguard our freedom. Their work and sacrifice brought us peace for many years. We join with others in appreciation. The First Night committee continues to seek out the names of our honored veterans who served during this time. Starting July 18th, the BARNSTABLE COUNTY FAIR is back! An annual Cape Cod "must do" with rides, a petting zoo and more! This year there's a demolition derby, bull riding and great entertainers. So kick back and enjoy this old-time event. When you are full of cotton candy, fried dough and popcorn, settle down on the quiet side of the Cape at the Whalewalk Inn. Take walks on the National Seashore's trails, take a dip in the sea, enjoy a boiled lobster, and then spend the evening relaxing in your own whirlpool tub, or the hot tub in the Spa. See you on Cape Cod! Labels: Concerts, County Fair, Demolition Derby, Festival, Food
Great to be back on Cape Cod. The weather even cooperated with our return. It was clear and 50 degrees, which after being in the 80s, it was a pleasant shock to the system. After unpacking looked at the gardens and the daffodils are really sprouting and some even have buds on them. That is so exciting! Daffodil time is always so pretty on the Cape. The Town of Brewster will be holding their daffodil festival the weekend of May 2, 3 and 4. There will be many happenings for many different interests. Art galleries, antique and craft shops will have open houses offering special sales and gifts. For the golfer, the Captain's golf Course will host "closest to the pin" contests all weekend. The Brewster Band concert will be on Friday at 7:00 PM, and the Bloom Run will be Saturday morning. The juried fine arts and crafts show will be held Saturday from 10:00 to 5:00. The antiques and collectibles fair will be Saturday and Sunday 8:00 to 4:00. In the evening, there will be a "Swing into Spring Big Band Dance at Ocean Edge on Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. So bring your dancing shoes for a great night of dancing. And what would any festival be on the Cape without a Chowda' Tasting which will be on Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. On Sunday there will be live music at Drummer Boy Park starting at noon until 4:00. And another American love and tradition is the parade which will be on Sunday at 1:00 PM. You may even see our grand kids marching. So make your reservations at the Whalewalk Inn today to join in all the festivities, while enjoying a gourmet breakfast, a special hors d'oeuvre party on Saturday evening, and maybe a spa treatment to make your celebration of the daffodils even more special. So book early, especially if your want a room with a tub to add to the romance of the weekend. Labels: Art, Concerts, Craft Show, Dance, Festival, Golf
