Things to Do on Cape Cod: Music, Arts & Crafts, Hikes and Walks

The weather is absolutely marvelous this week -- cool, sunny and great for a hike or bike ride. Enjoy the following:

Wednesday, October 8 -- Eastham Hiking Club offers a free guided hike starting at 9:00 am at the Harwich reservoir and Conservation lands. Call 508-255-3808 for information and directions

Wednesday walks with naturalist Connie Boyce at Spruce Hill to Namskaket Marsh. Leave the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Route 6A at 9:45 am, 508-896-3867 for cost and details.

Saturday Walks -- If you want to get the family outdoors and get a little education while you're at it, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History hosts Family Field Walks year-round every Saturday and Sunday (and Monday-Friday in July and August). Explore the John Wing Trail at the museum with a trained naturalist, who will give you all the facts about marsh, oak-pine forest and beach habitats. The one-and-a-half hour walk covers 1.2 miles, so even the little ones can enjoy it. Cost is free with museum admission. Call 508-896-3867 for time of hike.

Arts and crafts: Saturday, October 11th and Sunday the 12th at Nauset Middle School in Orleans where a visit to the Cape area isn't complete without a peek at what local artisans have to offer. The Artisans' Guild Arts and Crafts shows, which are held five different times a year at the local Middle School, feature a vast selection of the best in local crafters' wares. Take advantage of this gift-shopping opportunity to find something special for a loved one or yourself that is distinctly "Cape Cod." Admission is free; plenty of parking is available. Entertainment: Music nightlife is available on Friday or Saturday (and sometimes both nights at the following establishments: Agro Dolce, Route 6, Brewster, Jazz both nights, 508-896-8600

Joe's Bar and Grille at the Barley Neck Inn on the way to Nauset Beach has free live entertainment, which we have had rave reviews by our guests, on the weekends. 508-255-0212 -- great lobster, too. Reserve your table and lobster at the same time.

Paula Poundstone, comedian with be at The Vixen Nightclub in Provincetown on the 11th and 12th, 7 and 9 pm, $45 and $50 seats. Call 508-487-6424 for ticket information.


Musical Performances: Rum Soaked Crooks Autumn Winds concert with sea chanteys and folk music, 7:00 pm, Saturday, October 11 at Salt Pond Visitor Center, Route 6 Eastham, free.

First encounter coffeehouse, Samoset Road, Eastham, 508-255-5438. Doors open at 7:30 pm, performance at 8:00 pm, $15 at the door. Sharon and Matt Heaton will perform on October 11th.

Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis. For information on ticket prices and discounts call 508-362-1111. Saturday, October 11th at 8:00 pm and Sunday, October 12th at 3:00 pm for a Classical Mystery Tour.

Galleries: There are many fine galleries and exhibits on the Lower Cape. When you arrive at the Inn please check the second section of The Cape Codder available in the den of the Main Inn. We also have a whole map of galleries found in Wellfleet and Orleans. So ask for those also.
