Father's Day Dining on Cape Cod -- and a Romantic Getaway, Too!

Now that Dad has his Gift Certificate deal in hand (see previous Blog or below for details), has been welcomed, and is enjoying his stay, he will need to know about restaurants in the area. If Dad likes the sports scene, then he will enjoy the food and ambiance at Mahoney's, Land Ho!, and Joe's Beach Bar and Grill. All three have bar areas with TV for sports viewing and support for favorite teams (as long as it is a Massachusetts's team.)

If Dad likes a more upscale style of dining, he would certainly like Abba, Captain Linnell House, Nauset Beach Club, or the Brewster Fish House. All four restaurants serve amazing food, but the presentation is above and beyond -- pleasing to the eye and to the palate.

For casual dining with upscale food, Dad may want to try Academy Ocean Grille, Wicked Oyster, or Winslow's Tavern.

Maybe Dad just likes the clam shack feel for dinner. We would suggest the Bookstore, Pearl, Arnold's, the Friendly Fisherman, or BYOB to Sir Cricket's.

Does Dad like fried chicken while Mom likes lobster? Well the place to go is the Marconi Grille. They serve the best fried chicken north of Georgia. Give them a try for sure. They also have many fish entrees and smoked ribs and chicken.

Best of all enjoy the breakfasts here at the Whalewalk Inn & Spa. For Father's Day we make an amazing corned beef hash with fried egg on top -- and the guys here insist that home fries are part of any man's breakfast. So come to the inn and celebrate Dad's special day! Book online or call 508-255-0617 for reservations or to buy your gift certificate. (FOR EVERY $100 YOU SPEND ON A GIFT CERTIFICATE, WE WILL ADD AN EXTRA $10. OFFER EXPIRES JUNE 20,2011.)

Barnstable County Fair -- A Cape Cod Tradition

Step back in time and enjoy the 166th Barnstable County Fair beginning July 17th through the 24th. Brave the midway rides, visit farm animals -- even a kangaroo, and agricultural exhibits. Don't miss the fried dough, cotton candy and music. Meet you at the County Fair grounds, Route 151 in East Falmouth.

After a day at the fair, drive up to Eastham check into the Whalewalk Inn, have a great dinner at one of the great restaurants in the area -- Mahoney's, Nauset Beach Club, Abba, Academy Ocean Grille, Joe's Beach Bar and Grille, the Beacon Room, Land-Ho --and those are only in Orleans. Drive up route 6 and experience Arnold's a lobster institution, the Friendly Fisherman, Marconi Grille and the Wellfleet Drive-in. Wellfleet has some great water view dining at Mac's Shack, Pearl or the Bookstore for oysters, oysters and more oysters.

If you want to take a great walk -- just turn left out of the Inn's parking lot, go to your first right, Dyer Prince, and follow it to Cape Cod Bay. Along the way you may spot deer, osprey, fox, coyote, and if the tide is going out, a cadre of sea creatures, burrowing into the sand waiting for the water to return.

Make your reservations today -- online or by phone, 508-255-0617.

Experience Cape Cod Restaurant Week -- May 17 to May 23

Last night was girl's night out, so Heather and I went to Chillingsworth and there met innkeeper friends, Margaret and Rebecca. We took advantage of Restaurant Week and headed out to Brewster. We had a fabulous dinner for $25 per person. I started with Escargot, followed by Herb Roasted Pork Loin over mashed potatoes and spinach with a wonderful glaze of Rosemary-Fig Sauce. For desert, I had Pistachio Creme Brulee. It was great!

Some of the other menu choices ordered were Crab Crepes with Grilled Shrimp, Golden and Red Beet Carpaccio with Marinated Goat Cheese, Fig & Beet Drizzle, Miso Salmon with Daikon-Cucumber Relish, Creamy Mushroom Soup, and Flounder.

Drinks and gratuity were extra, but the Melon and Mango Martinis were delish!

Other restaurants that are favorites of ours and also offering a price fixed menu are: Nauset Beach Club, Red Pheasant Inn, Cape Sea Grille, Captain Linnell House, Chatham Bars Inn, l'Alouette Bistro, The Red Inn, Scargo Cafe, and Vining's Bistro. Menus to view are available on CapeCodWineAndDine.com.

So come on down to the Inn -- last weekend of off-season rates and dine out with great food at even greater prices.
